Funding of Social Care

June 11, 2017

The General Election has delivered even greater uncertainty to the Social Care Funding debate. The proposed changes to care funding as contained in the Conservative manifesto caused so much concern that the Conservatives nearly lost the election. Undoubtedly more proposals will have to be debated before we have a final version but I believe that the end result will place more of the funding obligation on the individual before the Local Authority steps in – with some form of arrangement that will involve the Local Authority initially funding the care but recouping these costs after the death of the individual (having taken out a charge on the home of the individual being funded).

I do not expect an early resolution to the above when there is so many other priorities such as  who should be Prime Minister, which Party should be in Government, and, of course, Brexit.
