Sir, Having read your article on the need for proper protective equipment for NHS staff I am surprised there has been no mention of the need for such equipment to be issued to home care workers. Although people over 70 are self-isolating, those with care needs who receive care at home still need to be helped in essential ways such as being given personal care or having meals prepared. If care workers are not protected adequately then there is a real risk that there will not be enough care workers, especially as there was a shortfall in the number of care workers even before the virus.
Further, no one has addressed the issue of testing for care workers. There needs to be far greater thought given to the vital role fulfilled by social care and how it can continue.
