At the heart of everything we do is respect for the wishes of our clients to remain in their own homes.
Home is where memories are – happy memories of family weddings, great birthday parties or of a long and happy marriage.
The home also provides shelter and protection from the outside world. During the Coronavirus crisis, our clients were far safer at home than in any other setting.
We enable our clients to stay at home for as long as possible with dignity and safety by providing small teams of regular, reliable, highly trained carers, supported by experienced office staff.
Our story
Choosing a care provider is one of the most important decisions a family can make.
As a family-run organisation, 1st Homecare understands the importance of trust when someone new enters your home.
Our service is guided by the same values families expect for their own loved ones — respect, reliability and genuine commitment to the people we support.
In 2012, John and Annabella Rennison took over the running of 1st Homecare, which had been running in Leighton Buzzard since 2010.
Both John and Annabella had previously experienced difficulty finding consistent, reliable home carers for their own parents. They felt that their understanding of the need for respect, reliability and genuine commitment in home care, coupled with their professional experience in finance and law, would enable them to build a care company that they themselves would trust.
That mission – to ensure that people can continue to live in their own home with dignity and comfort – remains central to everything we do today.
The company continued to grow in Leighton Buzzard, then expanded into Oxford and Kings Langley by acquiring existing care companies and standardising the ethos, systems and processes that had worked so well in Leighton Buzzard.
1st Homecare is still a family business which puts families first.
Our team
Our mission
Familiar Faces. Trusted Care.
At 1st Homecare, our mission is to support people to live safely and comfortably in their own homes while giving families confidence in the care their loved ones receive.
Through familiar carers, dependable support and open communication with families, we aim to build trusted relationships that make care feel reassuring, personal and reliable.
Because when someone you love needs care at home, the people delivering that care matter.

How We Deliver Our Mission
- Providing care through small, consistent, local teams of carers
- Delivering reliable care families can depend on
- Building trusted relationships with the people we support and their families
- Maintaining clear communication and responsive support

What makes us different?
Quality & Consistency
Our carers are not ‘just carers’. They are often the only people our clients see all day. As one client said ‘They always arrive with a smile on their faces and bring life to what otherwise are often long and empty days’; so we always pick them very carefully. We have a rigorous set of recruitment procedures based on our core values and we obtain a DBS and references as well as conduct a thorough value-based interview process.
We continually review and improve our policies and procedures so that, no matter what type of help you need, you can be assured that you will receive the same first class level of service.
Read our case studies to see how our commitment can make the difference.

We believe that a key difference at 1st Homecare is that our carers are the best they can be. Every 1st Homecare carer is provided with full training and induction for which they are paid, unlike some other care providers. They then shadow experienced carers before going into the community. Only after completion of these important stages are they allowed to visit clients on their own. We ensure that our training is at the forefront of current best practices and industry insight. We fundamentally believe that better training means better carers, which simply means better care for our clients. Watch our carers video to find out more about how we work.

Better systems support better care
It’s the familiar faces providing the care that are the heart of 1st Homecare, but it’s the administration team and the technology they use that ensures that everything runs smoothly.
We are constantly looking at new ways to enhance our service and improve the care of our clients and their families. From greater contact and transparency between carers, clients and family to improvements in office procedures,
Our Family App makes everything smoother
- Family and friends of our clients can access their care records directly from our app on their Smart phones. This provides peace of mind – particularly when work commitments or geography prevent daily visits to your loved ones under our care.
As part of this free service we give you online access to scheduled and actual call visit times, names of carers, notes of visits relating to each task performed. The App allows you to send messages to the office with any particular care concerns that you may have. - Carers can instantly see any changes to their rotas and quickly record what was done at the visit, reducing admin time and maximising the time they have to attend to your needs. All call visit times are accurately recorded, and any care concerns can be easily sent to the office for follow-up.
- Office support staff can be more responsive to clients’ needs thereby providing safer and more effective care.
