How Live-in Care in Headington allows Derek and Anne to stay together
Still together for 60 years and counting…
Derek and Anne have been married for over 60 years and have lived in their home in Headington, Oxford since the 1980s. They recently contacted us because they both needed some help with their morning personal care, so we arranged for a short daily home care visit to support them.
The daily home care visits made their lives much easier, but later that year they both fell ill, and Anne went into a respite facility to aid her recovery whilst Derek remained at home.
They have been married for over 60 years, and hate to be separated, so that arrangement was not suitable long term. We arranged for a full-time live-in carer and Anne was able to return home to be with her husband. Having a full-time carer took a lot of pressure from the couple as Anne recovered – preparing meals, keeping up with housework, and even taking them for trips to the local shops – giving them both a new lease of life
A few months later Derek became unwell and ended up in hospital himself. During that time Anne remained at home supported by her live-in carer while she continued to recover from her own illness. On discharge, Derek was still too unwell to provide any cover for the carer’s breaks, so our live-in and home care visit departments worked together to ensure full cover was provided by familiar carers to keep continuity for both Anne and Derek.
Our live-in carer now provides full time care for both of them, with ongoing support from our Oxford branch.
